A nest, not a theme

The most comforting part of fish and chips might not be the moment it is wrapped. It is pushing the door open on a cold evening, seeing the light, hearing the gentle crackle of the fryer, and knowing you do not need to worry about dinner. Chip Nest is built around that everyday sense of relief: the familiar British chippy, made bright, easy to order from, and welcoming.

The menu does not keep growing just to look generous. Classic cod, haddock, thick-cut chips and mushy peas are the stars, with a few choices for people who do not eat fish and for smaller appetites. Whether chips come with the fish, what each portion includes and which sauces are extra should all be written down plainly.

We picture Chip Nest keeping company with students on the way back from evening class, neighbours coming off shift, and families who would rather not cook on a Friday. Take supper home, or stop for a little while. No made-up century-old legend and no claims to be the best in town — just a hot, familiar supper that makes the way home a bit easier.
